The development at West Port, Dundee which Stewart Milne Construction completed in the autumn of 2009 is to receive a Dundee Civic Trust commendation. The third phase of the West Marketgait scheme it represents a significant link in the overall redevelopment of the west city centre which includes new headquarters building for Dundee City Council. West Port is a mix of leisure, commercial and residential accommodation: the two previous phases included the conversion of a historic mill building and the works, carried out by SMC provided a 48 bedroom Travelodge and 30,000 sq ft of workspace. Within this current phase, Grosvenor Casinos Ltd occupies 30,000 sq ft. The remainder provides accommodation for a bar/restaurant operation, 22,000 sq ft office space, a 9,485 sq ft retail unit and 23 serviced residential apartments on the upper floors – a first for Dundee. Stewart Milne Construction’s Jock Adie has been named as a finalist at this year’s Construction Manager of the Year Awards. Jock has been nominated for the award following his work on the refurbishment of the University of Abertay’s Kydd building in Dundee.
