STEWART MILNE GROUP PRESENTS THE CLASS OF 2012

The first term is underway for the new class of Stewart Milne Group’s apprenticeship programme. A total of 10 individuals have joined the company’s Construction and Homes North Scotland divisions to hone their skills and get ahead in the housebuilding industry.

This year’s class comprises men and women, aged between 17 and 37, undertaking apprenticeships in trades ranging from bricklaying to joinery.

Teresa Mennie, 33, has joined the team as an apprentice joiner the Leathan Fields development in Portlethen, Aberdeen. Commenting on the programme, she said: “I am so excited to be completing my apprenticeship with Stewart Milne Homes – it’s the ideal, practical route to starting a career in this industry.  I’m also really looking forward to showing that age or gender is no object in any career choice; anything is possible if you want it. “

Aaron Adie, 17, an apprentice painter and decorator with the Stewart Milne Construction team in Auchterarder, said:  “This is a really great programme and is a real foot in the door with regards to getting into the housebuilding industry.  I had been looking for an apprenticeship scheme for a while, however there has been very few opportunities around in the last couple of years, so my plans had to go on hold.  This apprenticeship is very well received, particularly since on-the-job training opportunities are so limited, and I am looking forward to getting my career underway.”

Stewart Milne began his own career in the industry as an electrician’s apprentice and founded the Stewart Milne Group just four years later in 1975. Investing in people has been at the heart of the business ever since. Karen Catto, director of HR at Stewart Milne Group, explains:  “Nurturing the talent of today creates the skilled workforce and industry leaders of tomorrow; our people are incredibly valuable to our business and fundamental to our success.

”As a company, we are committed to creating opportunities, instilling best practice and helping individuals achieve their full potential. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our latest recruits and wish them all the best.”

The Stewart Milne Group also hosts an Apprentice of the Year award to recognise those who have shown outstanding commitment, achievement and development during their training.
